Scoping the Project

Meeting the client:

  • As my client lives close to my home town near London most communication will be/was through email and Facebook.   Despite this I thought it was essential that I met with the client 2 or 3 times on the project to discuss first hand our thoughts on  the website/social media/logo/colour schemes/content/business cards.  I am going to make sure that the client is highly involved in the decision making by creating some questionnaires to fill out to aid our discussion when we meet.
  • The questionnaires would give me more information around what the client wants from the final project.  This all will help me on the next stage of creating the artefact.

Identifying clients or your previous multimedia experience:

  • My client has no existing website, has no technical background and hasn’t created a created a website for himself so I am going to be using Wix.com to create the website to ensure that he can use and update it after handover.  Wix.com is a simple to use creation tool.
  • This is fitting as I only have a limited background in website creation myself having only started learning how to code on one creative unit last year.
  • I have some experience with Adobe Illustrator from my ‘Intro to computer graphics unit’ in first year (Level 4) which I feel will be useful in creating and presenting the logo development images.
  • Ideally this project will develop my skills across all of there areas.
  • I will ask my client for images to include in the website and social media page as he has some good quality images and I won’t be able to access his current studio to take new photos (commercial concerns from current employer).

Understanding the breadth and depth of the project:

I am planning to create:-

  • Simple brand promotion Website – will be created using Wix.com, appropriate images needed from the client.  The site created needs to look professional and fit within a classy aesthetic to fit into the marketplace of the jewellery industry.
  • Website to include, contemporary looking landing page , Gallery link to images and a contact page.
  • Facebook page – to mirror the website pages and acts as another route to publicise Harry’s work.
  • Logo – as Harry has only recently joined the industry he does’t have a logo developed for future branding so he is looking to create one which stand’s out, is simple and still fits the marketplace.  I will be looking at examples from the market place to help develop a unique logo for Harry.
  • Business card – to incorporate new logo with client information such as web address and contact details.

Questionnaire:

  • Client questionnaires will be developed and filled out in meetings, to fully understand my client’s company and preferences on layouts, fonts, image and direction. (See below)

Initial Pricing:

It is important to consider what the price would be if creating the project outcomes as a freelancer. As I am doing this for a friend from secondary school I decided not to charge him for my designing and creation work, but if done for another client the costing would be as stated above. Despite this, any additional costs, such as printing of business cards (mentioned above) and website hosting will be covered by the client. Luckily, he has already purchased the domain name, so no extra charge will need to be covered in that aspect.
